10 Tips for Flawless Bridal Getting-Ready Photos

You’ve all seen them, the behind-the-scenes shots of the beautiful bride getting ready for her big day. These candids may seem irrelevant, but they do capture precious moments that the bride will look back on and cherish. There’s nothing more memorable than doing yourself all up with your best girlfriends on your big day! To ensure that all the lovely future brides out there will get the most perfect pictures, I’m giving you my 10 best tips for flawless getting-ready photos!

Tip #1.

DON’T skimp on time. To be completely transparent, creating stunning getting-ready photos will take a minimum of 90 minutes. I’m talking about the flat-lay photos of your details, bridal shots of all your finishing touches, and getting into your dress! Be extra generous in the time department.

Tip #2.

Be prepared. To avoid disorganization and confusion, have all detail pieces requested by your photographer in a designated spot, ready to go when they arrive. On top of that- make sure one of your bridesmaids knows where everything is, so we don’t have to interrupt hair and makeup when we arrive! The more detailed pieces to choose from, the better the getting-ready photos!

Tip #3.

The more flowers, the better. There’s nothing prettier than detailed shots filled with flower arrangements. I suggest having your florist drop off extra floral pieces for your photographer to use in your detail photos to give it that finishing touch.

Tip #4.

Be picky with the location. When choosing a spot for your getting-ready photos, know that your photographer will look for spaces with minimal color, furniture, and as much natural lighting as possible. These are all things to keep in mind when deciding!

Tip #5.

Make your apparel lavish! When buying a robe to use, consider a full-length one. It may sound silly, but it looks SO elegant when on and will dress up your getting ready photos, and any moment your photographer may capture.

Tip #6.

Wrinkles are a no. This step is pretty simple- have your dress steamed ahead of time.

Tip #7.

This shouldn’t be the first time doing hair and makeup. Be sure to do a trial with your hair and makeup artist before your big day. This ensures that you’re completely happy with your chosen styles and will give your photographer a more accurate idea of how much time you will need when prepping for your getting-ready photos.

Tip #8.

Keep your belongings in check. Encourage your bridesmaids to keep their clothes, hair, + makeup items as contained as possible. This allows for less time spent cleaning up spaces your photographer wants to use for pictures.

Tip #9.

Unnecessary accessories must go! Before your photographer arrives, do them a favor and lose the hair ties and apple watches on your wrists, we won’t be needing those! Encourage your bridal party to be completely photo-ready- lose the leggings under robes, tuck bra straps, lose the bright-colored socks, you get the idea. These are all precautions that make for easier getting ready photos!

Tip #10

Outsourcing is KEY! Hire a creative team that you LOVE and trust! Have a detailed planning conversation ahead of time when you can voice any details, concerns, and things you’re most excited about. When your photographer shows up, you can feel confident handing everything over so they can create beautiful getting-ready photos!
