How to Rock your engagement session!

Filed in: Engagement

engagement-1

I’m so excited to get starting in planning your engagement session!  These photos will capture your story, your everyday love and your adventure of becoming husband and wife.  I have taken some time to put together some tips and thoughts that might help you get started in your planning.

location

Location

Everything about your engagement session is about creating images that represent your relationship as a couple.  What do you love to do together? Are you coffee shoppers, stay home cuddlers, hiking and climbing masters, beach loungers, surf bums, bakers?  Lets think outside the ordinary list of pretty places you’ve seen on Pinterest boards and blogs.  Lets go document your everyday love (with pretty hair and makeup of course).  Lets take some time to set the tone for this shoot, that starts with location!

clothes

What to Wear

Now that we have your perfect space, lets consider the colors, tones and style of venue we will be surrounded by as we perfectly pick what you will be wearing.  Feel free to bring two outfits, usually I suggest one casual and one a little more formal or different then your everyday look.  Lets start playful with the sun out and shining and move into something a little fancier and little more romantic as we start to see that sun set, ya feel me? Ladies, it tends to be easiest to start with your outfit and match your man’s to whatever you end up loving.  When you’re pairing outfits, always try to coordinate, never match.  Consider the styles, colors, tones, and find subtle ways to tie them together.  That could mean a pop of color in your sweater or necklace matches well with a tie of his or a stripe in his shirt.  Maybe you don’t wear the same colors at all, maybe your outfits just compliment each other perfectly (just like the two of you!).  Above all, stay true to you, try not to over think it.  Hop over to Pinterest to take a look at my engagement styles board to get a few ideas (and give me a follow if you like!) If you’re totally stressing, shoot me an email of what you’re considering wearing and I will give you my totally honest but kind opinion!

Details Details Details..

Hats, jewelry, flower crowns, jackets, glasses, sunnies, scarfs; these little beauties can seriously up your engagement game!  They add character, layers, pops of color and trendiness.  You may want to wear jeans and your favorite t-shirt, but add a super fun necklace and have me bring a flower crown along for you and you’re golden!  Did you like that subtle plug?  Flower crowns are $55 for engagement and wedding days, created by me, perfectly to match your outfit.  Email me for more details and sample images.

As a general rule in life, I always say simple is best.  This is true in the case of engagement sessions as well. However, a little save the date detail, your furry four legged baby, a perfectly matched blanket, or a glass of wine to share can make for a fun few shots.  If your pup will be joining us, I only ask you have a friend tag along to keep them entertained while we keep our photo session on track.

Treat Yourself!

Splurge!  Go get your hair and makeup done.  Paint your nails, and clean that stunning engagement ring you’ve got on.  Little tip, engagement hair and make up is very different from wedding day hair and make up.  Often times hair and make up artists offer deals on engagement beauty for their brides, so ask about it!  I would not suggest using your engagement session as a trial for your wedding day.

relax

Relax and Get Excited!

What?  You mean you and your fiancé don’t spend weekends modeling in fields and practicing the art of perfect forehead kisses and hand holding?   I do not in any way, expect you to be models.  I promise to be there to help create those perfect sweet moments, the posing, the posture corrections, smiles, all of it.  I’m so excited to get to know a little more about your love story and create something beautiful for you!
